Read his post and my post again. His "evidence" was that the same people who are mad at ANET for banning innocent people are the same people who are mad at ANET for not doing anything about bots. And he assumes that people want one thing but not the other. WRONG.

I wasnt disputing his conclusions that you listed above, I was disputing the so called evidence he was using to back them up.

You would think that if an Anet person is observing your actions that there would be something beyond just watching you and deciding you are a bot.

Trying to talk to you, identifying themselves as an in-game moderator, and attempting to have a "non-bot" conversation with you would be a good way to help make that decision.
Unless the in game moderator suddenly *puff* in front of me, otherwise, i might or would have miss the whisper or the line to attempting to start a conversation, i dont look at chat box when im farming.

When I'm out farming, I say things to myself for this exact reason.

Test farming on Trolls, I get a few collectables, I shout "YAY some worthless junk". Remod my build, test again, say something different like "Wahoo a purple >.<"

As long as I use different smileys in the messages, there is no way im using a bot program. Not sure if this will give it away that I obviously am not a bot, but I do it just incase.

from now on when i farm i'll dance or do something odd at different places. You situation really scares me I love this game and don't break any rules but now im afraid of anet taking my account. Why can't A-Net just focus on scammers and leechers not everyone else (that would be nice)

Not for the OP, but for other people that are scared of Anet.

I don't know how people can say they farm "a little" and then get the antifarming text - sometimes I farm for a whole day and I never ever got that message yet!

I assume people getting that message are doing super short runs repeatedly, like 2-3 mins or so?

Anyway if you exhibit bot like behaviour I don't see why some people are surprised that they might actually raise suspision about them being bots.

Grats to the OP and nice to see that it does make a point to plead your cause.

Because then we'd get idiots complaining about "OMG I GOT BANT FOR SCAMMING BUT I DIDNT REALLY HONEST TO MOM". Same difference.

We still don't know the exact reason behind the ban, so I'm not going to say they did anything wrong just yet.

I dont think that's the complaint here. Scammers and leechers are worse than bots because they not only are breaking the rules they're actually ruining someone's gaming experience whereas botters are just breaking the rules but dont directly screw someone over.

Glad the OP got his account back.

But just a question on the anti farm message, does it always pop up? I actually didn't know you got one.

There is no message. The text he is referring to is a code that is employed after a person farms for a certain amount of time without doing other activities such as PvP or missions. And to the OP, I'm glad you got your account back, and glad you shared how you were able to get it back.

EDIT: From the post below me, apparently there is an actual message. I wasn't aware of this...

it pops up (BOTH OF THEM) but you have to really work to get them.

i was after exp and there were those 4 mergoyles right against the zone so i simply killed them and kept rezoneing til i finally got the bot message but by that time i was just leaving the drops on the ground anyway.

5 minutes later the 2nd message pops up saying drops will stop but since the exp kept coming who cares.

the point is you have to really act like a bot for a long time to trigger it

haha i do that too.

im very paranoid, and I dont even solo farm (hell i cant get my head out of zos chrivos long enough to do anything profitable!!)

I used to do this to get new members:

(insert common 'join my guild' type text here) copy, paste
switch up a district
paste
switch up
paste
switch up
paste

etc etc until i drop in on every town/district in shing jea area

Now I dont even copy and paste anymore. Hell, Ive given up on recruiting til nightfall is here.

Thanks!

Least I think I haven't got those, but I know to stop farming and do a mission, bonus or something before going back again.

Oh and I was one of those poor people who got their account banned back when the dragon thing happened. Worst day of my life. -sighs-

But Anet were reasonable and unbanned me and those who were banned when they didn't do anything wrong. (Sorry sentence structure isn't the greatest for me today.)

Well, he did ask for this to be closed, and after reading the next couple of pages, I see why. It appears that ANet really tries hard to eliminate botters, but as I learned in a book on logic, no matter what kind of filter you use, there will be situations where either a bot appears to be human, or a human appears to be a bot. It's ANet's job to decide which side of the line they are going to err on, and hopefully they'll listen to us about it (*cough*dragon festival random bans*cough*). I'll leave this thread open, but guys, try not to flame each other about how you think ANet bans people, since nobody really knows.

Innocent until proven guilty is the way to go, at least for these bot bannings.

When a scanner software pick up anything, you should not trust it 100% and you should ask any technician you know or search it on the internet.

I have read all of the posts and made my post accordingly. Doesn't it seem like the program that was picked up might be a TAD fishy? or it MIGHT be detected by more than one scanner as a VIRUS or some sort of odd 3rd party program? If Norton picked it up, even if it isn't a virus, it must have code similar to one...

So instead of assuming Anet must have made a mistake, lets take the more likely course which is that Anet thought this program was some sort of farming bot, and possibly that combined with botlike actions was enough to get him banned.

The program we are talking about is a program that interacts with application windows. Minimizing or hiding them, etc. Doesn't it seem like it MIGHT have interacted with GW?

And you are ABSOLUTELY wrong. According to my logic Windows, IE, Firefox, Opera could NOT be considered third party bot programs because they DONT interact with GW, and they DONT get picked up in Norton Antivirus scans.

--Thanks for flaming me, but I think your post was the most ignorant.

wow this has really started to be a problem. all these accidental bannings are starting to get to me.

and the mention of in game moderators watching me if they even suspect something really scares the shi* out of me. without my consent someone could be watching everything i say or do. so i guess this whole thread is a warning. be careful what u say or do.

Big Brother is watching... (1984 anyone?)

Lol.... When you can figure out a way to run GW without a OS, then you can claim Windows does not interact with GW

1. Windows OS is a thirdy party in relation to GW

2.Windows interacts with Gw

so dont argue about this silly point.
